How to Use an Inflatable Stand Up Paddle Board (SUP): A Beginner’s Guide

1. Prepare Your Gear
**Inflate the Board **
- Use a high-pressure pump to inflate your SUP to **15-16 PSI** for optimal rigidity and stability. Check the pressure gauge to avoid overinflation.
**Attach Essential Accessories **
- Secure the **fin ** to the bottom of the board for better directional control.
- Always connect the **ankle leash ** to your leg to prevent the board from drifting away.

2. Launching and Balancing
**Kneel First, Then Stand **
- Start by kneeling on the board, placing your hands on either side for balance.
- Slowly stand up with one foot at a time, keeping your knees slightly bent and your gaze forward.

Use the Paddle for Stability
- Hold the paddle with one hand on the top grip and the other midway down the shaft.
- Dip the paddle into the water on the opposite side of your body to stabilize while standing.

3. Paddling Techniques
Forward Stroke
- Submerge the paddle blade fully and pull it backward parallel to the board. Switch sides after **5-7 strokes** for straight movement.

Turning
- **Sweep Stroke**: Sweep the paddle in a wide arc away from the board to turn.
- **Step Back**: Shift your weight slightly backward and paddle on one side for sharper turns.

4. Safety Tips
Wear Protective Gear
- Use a **rash guard ** and **water shoes** to prevent rashes and injuries.
- Apply **reef-safe sunscreen ** and stay hydrated.

**Check Water Conditions **
- Avoid areas with **rip currents ** or large swells. Check tide times and sunset schedules.

5. Post-Use Care
Rinse and Dry
- Rinse the board with fresh water to remove salt or sand, then dry it completely before deflating.

**Store Properly **
- Fold the board loosely and store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
